New Take on the Work Party- Wed. Aug. 5th!
Well, after much feedback about busy summer weekends, we are going to try something different. We are going to do an evening work party. Here are the details:
Work in the Garden Party!
When: Wednesday, August 5th
Where: At the kid's garden
Time: 4pm-7pm
Scope: Just the paths, Ma'am- We are going to weed around the beds, lay down cardboard, and haul and rake wood chips into place. The kids will finish making their garden signs and help with the gardening.
Food: I'll be bringing Homemade Pizzas and Homemade Ice Cream. If you want to bring sides or snackies that will be great!
Bring: Rakes and Shovel and Wheelbarrows, oh my.
We are hoping if we bite off the garden projects in small chunks we'll be able to make it easier for everyone to help.
Please let me know that you are coming via email elliottostdiek@fltg.net
Thanks!
Rebecca

New Date For Work Party-Stay Tuned
Hi Guys,
There was a scheduling conflict for this Sunday so we are looking at new dates in the next couple of weeks. We were thinking about doing 2-6 instead of 9-3 and Saturday instead of Sunday. What's your thoughts on this? Feedback? Also, we have decided to do an end run around the weeds. If anyone can just weed a few inches around the beds we are going to put cardboard down then mulch with wood chips. That should teach those weeds who is boss! Anyone have a wood chip connection?
So stay tuned for new party date-same bat time, same bat channel.
Thanks,
Rebecca

Hello, Help!, Yay!, Thanks and Stay tuned....
Hi Everyone,
Last week it seemed like every time I thought about going out, it rained! Well, it’s a new week and all that rain made the weeds in our children’s garden reach horror movie heights. I’ve dug out the middle and a chunk more but I am off to Nebraska for Dan’s parents 50th wedding anniversary celeb. So I am asking each of you to find 30 minutes, yes just 30 minutes, in the next week to weed the paths. I would love if everyone can bring their kids to work on their garden together. Anyone who wants to can post pictures on the Garden Blog of your brave foray into the garden jungle!
(Might I suggest turning over the area you want to do first. It’s much easier. There is one adult shovel there. Lots of kids tools. )
Many, Many thanks to Jackie Treml and all of you for the magnificent wrap-it fundraiser! Over $700 was raised! Also, thank you to everyone who made it to our special viewing of Pixar’s UP! At the Watkins Glen theater. We raised $220 that day. Between both fundraisers we now have enough for the fencing! Thank you all!
So, next big bang work party! There will be grilling, music, building projects and gardening! Save this date- July 27th Sunday.
Thanks,
Rebecca

Want to play in the garden?
If you have a spare minute or 30, the garden paths need to be weeded. With all the rain they are getting quite lush but will also be easy to pull as a result. Also, we are collecting mulch for filling in the paths at upcoming July work party. Details to follow. Thanks! Hope to see you at the garden!

Hello Again!
First of all, apologies for not updating in so long. Over a couple of weeks ago our dog was hit by a truck. He has been home recuperating ever since. Short version- it was scary there for a while but everything is much better with "Hopalong" Chuck here.
Many changes to report. Due to a scheduling conflict with Cayuga Nature Center, our fundraiser was canceled. We have retooled (forgive the slight pun) and we are going to have a work party with an equal emphasis on both words. More details later today.
Tree stumps have appeared at the garden. Bridgid is going to place them in a circle to use for outside circle times! Imagine it!
The first of many field trips happened to Frank's house. Frank's parents, Frank and Sigrid Popowich have opened their land for garden materials. A fun time was had tromping through the woods and some beautiful paving stones where brought back. Thank you Frank, Sigrid and Frank!
The soon to be baby chick eggs are here! Check out the incubator outside the toddler room interior door. Yay!
More later today.......
Thanks to everyone for their patience and thoughts.

Stop by Natural Beginnings

Natural Beginnings is partnering with us to provide a local garden shop that will carry many of the items we need. Natural Beginnings has long been committed to organic, sustainable and local means of garden and landscaping. Any item purchased here can either then be donated at the school or left here for pick up. They are located close to the new garden at 1603 Trumansburg Rd (Hwy 96 towards Tburg), Ithaca. Thank you so much for being a part of this!
First ground breaking yesterday!
Did you see what happened? The earth literally moved! We have Chaw Chang from Stick and Stone Farm to thank! Chaw and Lucy have been wonderfully supportive with their generosity of material, knowledge and enthusiam. They have 39 of their own acres of organic farm to manage but Chaw took the time yesterday to plow our space before today's rain fell. I can't tell you how many parents I ran into today smiling about the change, the forward movement into Spring and the beginning of a garden......
